What faculty and staff need to know before they buy a permit.
As a full-time or part-time member of the faculty and staff, you have your choice of many parking and payment options. Prices vary, so click here to check the current pricing schedule. You have the option of deducting the cost from your paycheck in a lump sum or spreading it out over 24 payments, or paying in cash. (Every spring, for a limited time, faculty and staff are offered the opportunity to book their permits for the following fall. You will be able to complete and submit an online form. You will be notified of this via Campus Update.) Types of parking permits Choose between a transferable permit that hangs from the rearview mirror or a permanent decal in case you have a convertible or a motorcycle. Choose a highly desirable Garage 1st Floor Permit, a Premium Permit or an economical Discount Permit for lots further from the center of campus. Designated and Reserved Spot Permits There are “Designated” spots in surface lots outlined in orange paint that are reserved for faculty and staff. There are also numbered “Reserved” spots for use at the discretion of the President. Daily Parking If you only need to come to campus once or twice a week, purchase a Premium Daily Permit from either of the Information Booths as you enter campus. You can park on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor of the garages and in many surface lots, but not in orange-lined Designated spaces, numbered spaces marked Reserved or spots marked Restricted, or or in Lots 7, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17. Lots 10, 11, 12, 15 and 17 are for Housing Permits only. You may also purchase a Daily Permit from the dispensers in Lots 18 and 53, and park there. Take the Osprey Connector shuttle to campus. Discount Permit The best values are Discount Permits. There are two types. One allows parking in Lots 14, 18 and 53 ONLY. (The other is for first-time-in-college commuters and the Housing students that were unable to purchase a special Housing parking permit. This parking permit allows parking in Lots 18 and 53 ONLY.) While these lots may be farthest from the center of campus the way the osprey flies, they can actually save you time as well as money! Lot 18 is accessible from Beach Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff Road via Central Parkway, and from UNF Drive via the new North-South Road. Lot 14 is near the UNF Police building. Lot 53 is off First Coast Technical Parkway east of Kernan. Just zip right in, find a ton of spaces and walk a few hundred yards or grab the shuttle. You’ll probably beat the guy who paid top dollar for a garage spot and is spending more time circling than you are strolling to campus or riding the shuttle bus. Premium Permit Drivers with Premium Permits can park on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor of the garages and in many surface lots, but not in orange-lined Designated spaces, numbered spaces marked Reserved, spaces marked Restricted, or in Lots 7, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17. Lots 10, 11, 12, 15 and 17 are for Housing Permits only. Garage 1st Floor Permit Faculty and staff have first priority on the spots on the 1st floor of the garages. These highly desirable permits generally sell out. If there are any unsold permits, they are offered to students. Motorcycle Permit Motorcycle parking is available throughout the garages and core campus lots and is identified by signage. It is the best deal going at UNF. And while motorcycles are convenient and fun, UNF wants you to be safe. Please wear your helmet and be careful. The parking permit is to be adhered to the rearward portion of the fender of the motorcycle. Disability Parking Vehicles parked in disability spots must have both the UNF permit or decal for that lot or garage and either a state-issued disability parking placard or a UNF-issued temporary mobility impairment placard. Visitor Passes If you have a visitor or colleague coming to visit, tell them to buy a $3.00 Premium Daily Permit from the Information Booths as they enter campus. They will be able to park on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor of the garages and in many surface lots, but not in orange-lined Designated spaces, numbered spaces marked Reserved, spaces marked Rsetricted, or in Lots 7, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17. Lots 10, 11, 12, 15 and 17 are for Housing Permits only. No visitor pass is required on weekends, unless there is a special event happening. Multiple-consecutive-day permits are also available at Parking Services. Registered Guest Program You can also make advance arrangements for a guest. Click here for more information. Other things you need to know More permits are sold than the number of parking spots since students, faculty and staff members don’t all come to campus everyday and don’t stay all day and night. This way, more spots are made available for everyone. There will always be a space available for you somewhere, but you are not guaranteed a spot in your favorite lot or garage. If your permit gets stolen, you break your leg, your car (and its decal) is in the shop for the day or you have a special request, contact Parking & Transportation Services. We’re here to help!
